EMDR Therapy

At Levis Therapy, our focus is helping people to live a compassionate and joyous life in the present. Often times, a memory of the past or a worry about the future can keep us from being present in the now. This tendency is exacerbated by small and large traumatic events in our lives. These events tend to be like a greasy, heavy meal that cannot be easily digested. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy can help the body to digest these undigested memories and free the joy that is waiting inside.

We specialize in the use of culturally attuned EMDR Therapy. One of our major tools is eliciting and reinforcing the culturally congruent tools and healing awarenesses unique to each client. Through exploration of intergenerational and historical trauma, as well as awareness to the impact of microaggression faced by minorities on an ongoing basis, EMDR therapy supports clients to feel seen, heard and understood,. As a result, clients often report that they find greater ease in navigating through the ups and downs of life.

From test anxiety and phobia, to small and large traumas,  EMDR therapy has been shown to be a highly effective evidence-based approach to treatment. The goal of EMDR therapy is to assist you in adaptively integrating past trauma or fears, leading you to a new understanding as a basis for more congruent behaviors and healthier relationships. EMDR therapy may be used as the main approach in our work together, or only to address a specific issue as a part of therapy.

We have had success in helping a variety of clients using EMDR therapy in combination with other therapeutic approaches. Some of the problems that we have experience with include:
